FOCUS GROUPS IN BC THIS SUMMER TO HELP WOMEN IN TRADES

Thursday, July 7, 2016

Hello ladies. I am on home turf right now on Vancouver Island for a couple weeks and then back on the saddle again (yes, I consider my Kenworth my loyal steed!) heading to Williams Lake, Quesnel and Smithers in August. Just heard of this awesome opportunity for women to share their stories and help shape programs for other women. It is government funded and they are looking for journey/apprectice level females. Contact me if you want a flyer with details. Audrey

FOCUS GROUPS are being conducted across four regions of BC to gain a better understanding of the workplace characteristics and challenges facing women working in the trades. Input from the focus groups will provide the opportunity to design services to increase the hiring and retention of tradeswomen.
LOCATIONS: Kelowna – July 19, Kamloops – July 21, Vancouver – August 4, Port Coquitlam – August 5, Victoria – August 30, Campbell River – August 31..., Prince George – September 7, Terrace / Kitimat – September 8

Join a small group discussion of 8-10 women working in the trades, with one lead facilitator from an independent non-profit research organization, and one representative from Build Together – Women of the Building Trades. Not everyone will be selected to participate,
as the group needs to include a variety of trades and occupations.

What are your experiences as a woman working in a skilled trade in BC. What is your perspective on the kinds of barriers you faced as a women in trades. What supports were available? What services do you think would increase the hiring and retention of tradeswomen in BC?

SkillPlan is leading/managing this project for Industry through the Sector Labour Market Partnership Program funded through the Ministry of Jobs Tourism and Skills Training and Responsible for Labour.
